bandes
biseaux
mountboard is synonimous
with the framing process and gives the subject it’s context. It
does however, have one notable draw-back..
no matter what the shade, strong deep colours on mountboard don’t
always work out according to plan, primary even secondary colours are
either too strong or not strong enough. what your eye recives is all of
the hue and none of the depth. framers notice the negative reaction their
customers give and gently steer them to off shades. this is a pity, because
a great deal of work can be utterly transformed by the use of bold colour
but this appears to have become something of a taboo.
bandes biseaux become especially useful here. basically, they are mounts
stretched with fabric, with an undermount in a thicker board covered in
the same fabric forming a deep elegant bevel. the trick lies in the fact
that the colour is carried on fabric, usually a plain chintz. fabric bears
colour in the opposite manner to mountboard in that deep colours are expressed
but the hue is seemlingly contained by the substrate. colours can come
right to the edge of the work yet not drain energy or attention from it.
decorators find bandes biseaux can allow the mounting more scope to tie
in with a decorative scheme, without risk of comprimising the artwork.
those with archival concerns might care to note that bandes biseaux may
be prepared in accordance with BS 5454.
we normally use ROMO
plain chintz however other fabrics could be used.cotact us for details.
