framing to the period all manner and epoch are available in terms of stock moulding, however it is far more important to understand the rationale which motivated conventions of a period and to apply this first, only then to apply solutions in terms of mouldings and patterns. soley with such a rationale can the object be given it’s proper context. for instance certain proceedures and materials only became available at a given time and have absolutely no place on work before that. where an original frame exists and is in at least reasonable condition it is important that this be retained, being part of the provenace of the work. a new mounting element could be added and if necssary may be adapted to the original frame with minimal visual alteration.denglas/uv glass can be added similary. where the original frame is in too poor condition it can be replcated to the smallest detail. |
